Wildrose Demands Answers On Move To Overhaul The Calgary Health Trust Board
The Wildrose Alliance is demanding the Minister of Health explain his decision to end the term of 8 of the 11 members of the Calgary Health Trust Board.
“It is absolutely shocking,” said Heather Forsyth, Wildrose Alliance Health Critic and MLA, Calgary – Fish Creek. “Why would the Minister unilaterally let go 8 outstanding Calgarians who have contributed so much to our city’s health care system? These board members have volunteered hundreds of hours and raised millions of dollars for our already overstretched hospitals; I simply do not understand how the Minister can think their efforts are no longer needed.”
Eight of the eleven board members were informed, by mail, that their services were no longer required with a simple ‘Your terms have come to an end’. Only the Chair, the Alberta Health Services representative and one board member were asked to remain on the board.
“The Calgary Health Trust, through private donations, raises millions of health care dollars for the benefit of all Calgarians,” noted Danielle Smith, Wildrose Alliance Leader. “We demand the Health Minister either reverse his decision on this matter, or at the very least, provide some logical explanation for his decision.”
Board Members who were released include:
Mr. Carlo Bellusci – Vendemmia International Wines Inc
Dr. T. Chen Fong – Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary
Mr. Kevin Gregor – Odgers Berndtson
Mr. Tim Hamilton – Odgers Berndtson
Mr. Bobby Libin – Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta
Ms. Cynthia Moore – Alberta College of Art and Design
Mr. Sherrold Moore – Alberta Sport Hall of Fame
Mr. Peter Valentine – Livingston International
Board Members who continue to serve include:
Mrs. M. Ann McCaig – Board Chair
Mr. Philip G. Hughes – NaiKun Wind
Ms. Brenda Huband – Alberta Health Services
