What’s on Your Mind – July
July was a relatively quiet month, apart from preparing for our upcoming move to the new location. Health care is still your #1 issue, followed by education.
We are starting to hear about the latest “brain child” from Calgary Health Services and their intent to move brain injured clients from the Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA) to other homes and facilities that will be unfamiliar to these clients. I had the opportunity to visit the homes in which the brain injured clients reside. It’s a wonderful home-like atmosphere with caring and compassionate care providers. When you talk to the clients, they tell you how much they like it and their families also express comfort knowing their loved one is so well cared for. It is heartbreaking to think they could be moved. I will continue monitoring the situation and advocate on behalf of my constituents and others who have called.
Calls on your search for a Family Doctor are still a primary topic. As I drive around the city I continue to keep my eyes open for new clinics or signs that doctors are accepting new patients. Recently I had the opportunity to find two new doctors accepting patients and you can call them at Wellpoint Health (403) 256-8213.
Home care remains a problem when trying to access care or for that matter get the hours that have been approved. I am watching this very closely and it is important for you to keep in touch on this issue.
We recently sent out 446 letters to students in the riding who received scholarships. These young people are our future and I was extremely proud to be able to send out congratulatory letters.
The calls we’ve received on proposed teacher layoffs are hard to answer as we will not know the impact until the new school year starts.
Finally, we have secured our new office location at Bay 7, 1215 Lake Sylvan Drive S.E. in Bonavista Downs, and hope to be in our new ‘home’ by the end of August. Please drop in for a chat and a “cuppa”. I will truly miss all the merchants (who became friends) at Deer Valley Mall after having our office located there for so many years.
