Rescind fee hike for veterans: Forsyth
EDMONTON, AB (November 10, 2011): The Alberta government missed a golden opportunity the day before Remembrance Day to rescind the unfair licence plate fee hikes they imposed on Alberta veterans in Budget 2011, the Wildrose said today.
Earlier today, the government announced new veterans licence plates for motorcycles. Wildrose Service Alberta Critic Heather Forsyth said the government should have also used the occasion to scrap the $14 fee hike it slapped on Alberta veterans for applying for and renewing their specialized licence plates.
“It was wrong to nickel and dime our brave veterans like this in the first place,” Forsyth said. “It would have been a nice gesture to them to reverse the hike today – to show them how much we appreciate their service to us. Instead, this government is going to continue making them pay more.”
The Wildrose said it would scrap the fee hike in its 2011 Balanced Budget Alternative.
The Wildrose Caucus stands for free enterprise, less government, increased personal freedom and democracy.
