June 2010 Whats on your mind
Health and education were definitely on your mind for the month of June. Numerous calls were received on both issues, followed by PDD (Persons with Developmental Disabilities).
On the health front, many of you are still trying to understand why Blue Cross Premiums (non group) going from 41.00 in June/09, to 118.00 in July of this year. Access to family doctors still remains a frustration to many of you and the length of time required to see a specialist frustrates you even more. We are still receiving calls and emails from those suffering with MS who wonder why you have to go to another country to seek treatment.
Education generated calls on the public and separate school boards deficits, teachers being laid off and why, in the year 2010, the government is not adequately funding education. The recent report “Inspiring Education” had many of you wondering about funding for children with disabilities and exactly where the government is going with this. Will your child receive the funding they so richly deserve or be thrown into a classroom with a “sink or swim” attitude?
I’m still receiving heartfelt calls from parents in regards to PDD and the funding cuts to their adult children. The Minister responsible continues to say there have been no funding cuts but your calls tell me otherwise.
