What’s on Your Mind
It has been another month and health care continues to be a top priority for the constituents of Fish-Creek. In addition, I have received a number of calls regarding the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) and workplace safety.
I continue to receive calls and emails from constituents on the new liberation treatment for Multiple Sclerosis patients following the Saskatchewan Government’s announcement to fund clinical trials for the treatment. Recently, the Government of Alberta announced it would look into supporting the liberation treatment based on a review of national and international clinical data by Health Canada. I am encouraged to see further research on the viability of alternative treatments for Multiple Sclerosis patients and look forward to the government’s decision on funding clinical trials in Alberta.
I am still hearing from many of you regarding long wait times in hospital emergency rooms, the lack of long term care beds, and lack of family doctors. The recent announcement made by the government on new long term beds begs just one statement: “show me the beds!”. I’ve had the opportunity over the last several weeks to meet with health care professionals who have offered their advice and suggestions on how we can begin to fix our broken health care system. As the Health Critic for the Wildrose Alliance Caucus, I deeply appreciate your ideas and know they will be extremely valuable as I continue to challenge the government in the upcoming fall sitting of the Legislature.
Recently, constituents have brought forward an issue dealing with the approval of Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) grants through the department of Culture & Community Spirit. Several applications in our community have been declined. After being your MLA for 16 years, I find it bizarre that applications for CFEP grants are being turned down with an explanation that states; “funds are not available, it is not possible to approve your application.” This is simply unacceptable. The government is denying Fish-Creek the funding they deserve to improve our community. As your MLA, I assure you that I plan to bring this matter forward to the Minister of Culture & Community Spirit.
Lastly, Employment & Immigration announced it would publicly post company safety records. While I support this initiative, I feel it is important that the details of the accident are thorough and concise. This will ensure workers can make informed decisions based on accurate information when seeking employment.
Again, thank you to those who have called, emailed and visited my office. Together we can make a difference.
