Environment

Like so many Albertans, I share a deep love and appreciation for the diverse natural environments that Albertans enjoy. As many of my constituents know, our riding is home to Fish Creek Provincial Park, a truly spectacular place that allows people to get up close and personal with nature.

As a Member of the Legislative Assembly, I want to ensure that future generations are clearly focused on water conservation and measures that reduce our impact on our water sources. I believe in proper and effective wildlife protection legislation that is based on science, respects regional diversity and still allows people to enjoy our natural habitat.

I also support the appointment of an Environmental Ombudsman for Alberta so that an independent voice can monitor government progress on environmental initiatives and policies. In addition, I believe it is important to see Ecological Impact Reports for all large projects. These reports need to take into account the impact of development in sensitive areas. Likewise, I believe that we must balance economic priorities with environmental sensitivities and that the appropriate government agencies have the ability to enforce rules and regulations effectively.
