December 2011

Well, constituents, you are staying consistent, to say the least!  Your #1 priority for months has not changed.  Health care remains on your mind and you continue to let me know how upset you are with the government.  Many of you are still letting me know how angry and disgusted you were with the treatment of Dr. Raj Sherman, and  government refusing to listen to his advice as an Emergency physician.  Families call about where they can put their aging parent with no long term care beds available and  hospitals wanting to release your parent into the community with no home care in place.  Several constituents concerned about  Transition Services in hospitals and how they want to move your elderly parent back home with no thought to “how” they will manage or “who” will manage them.  Many of you are still trying to find a family doctor and as quickly as we learn about one they become full and unable to accept more new patients.  On a daily basis we see long line-ups at the Medi-Centre and hear, also on a daily basis, from you, as our office is so close to the Medi-Centre.  I’ve also had some great discussions with family doctors and what they think are some of the answers on recruiting and retraining physicians.

Strangely enough, my web page came in as the second priority.  It shows how many of you now access my website and contact us with your concerns, ideas, and suggestions.  You’ve also asked how you can access questions I ask in the legislature.  I will continue to try to keep my web page as current as possible and am working on how to keep you engaged, so if you have any ideas, please call.

Lastly we received correspondence on several federal issues which include establishing a catastrophic drug plan, questions on CPP, and immigration.

I’m so very appreciative of the input provided at my December Open House by those who were able to attend.  It has, without a doubt, been the most successful Open House I’ve had since becoming your MLA.  We had some great discussions and it gave everyone an opportunity to hear what their neighbors and other constituents are thinking.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes and as always, I appreciate hearing from you.
